Here at Sonoran Desert Eye Center, we are proud to offer counseling and co-management for LASIK surgery.

LASIK stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis and is a popular surgery to correct vision problems. LASIK can help people who are nearsighted or farsighted as well those who have astigmatism.

LASIK works by reshaping the cornea with a laser. A laser is used to create a small flap in the cornea, which is peeled back so another laser can reshape the cornea. The flap is then returned to its original position, and the surgery is complete.

LASIK generally gives you excellent vision for about 8-10 years.  The vision will generally get a little blurry, but most people live with it.  Some people go back to wearing eye glasses part time or full time as needed.  Others will consider an enhancement LASIK procedure at that point.

If you are under 45 years old, LASIK will allow you to see distance and near.  But If you’re over 45 years old LASIK can only correct near or distance vision as desired.  If you have LASIK to correct your distance vision when you’re young, eventually you will need reading glasses to see close up.

LASIK is becoming quite popular because it works so well. It has a high success rate. The procedure itself is quick, taking only about ten minutes. Most patients require only local anesthetics, which is given in eye-drop form.

The procedure is painless, and you won’t have to deal with stitches or bandages. Most people see a difference in their vision right away. If needed, minor adjustments can be made in the future.

Every surgery has risks, so it is important to discuss the surgery, side effects, and recovery with us so you can make an informed decision about whether or not the procedure is right for you.

The center we co-manage LASIK with charges $3600 for both eyes.  They have the most advanced state-of-the-art laser available anywhere.  This laser not only corrects near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism, but also higher order aberrations in the visual system that distort vision in other ways.  A femtolaser is used to create the LASIK flap.

If we determine LASIK is the best procedure for you, we give the surgery center your name and they contact you to arrange things.  The best part of letting us arrange it for you is a) there’s no extra charge to get us involved b) we can manage you post-operatively at our office and c) the surgeons becomes accountable not just to you, but to us.
