Below are some of the latest exciting and innovative developments in eyecare.  Sonoran Desert Eye Center's mission is to provide access to these new developments.  Don't hesitate to call our office at  480-81... to talk to Dr. Quaranta about these new developments.

Air Optix Multifocal

In January 2010, we began fitting the Air Optix Multifocal.  This lens is revolutionizing contact lens wear for patients over 43 years old.  This allows good, crisp, comfortable vision at all distances.  Patients with low amounts of astigmatism may comfortably wear this lens as well.  It is approved for 6 days continuous wear and is replaced on a monthly basis.  We're very excited about this lens and able to fit it here in the office on the day of your exam!

The Varilux Physio 360

Progressive addition lenses (PAL's) have been around a long time now.  In fact, over 90% of Sonoran Desert Eye Center patients who need multifocals prefer progressives over line bifocals.  There is a large range of progressive lenses from cheap quality (narrower clear zones and wider blur zones and distortions) to high quality (wider cear zones and narrower and fewer blur areas).

While we provide all quality progressive lenses to patients, the highest quality progressive lens now on the market is the Varilux Physio 360.  At distance the Physio 360 reduces distortion to guarantee optimal visual acuity.  For computer and near vision the Physio 360 provides up to a  30% wider field of vision.  Patients say it's the clearest they've ever seen.   Advantages of the Physio 360 are:

  • Clearer Vision
  • Unlimited Frame Choices
  • Wider Viewing Zones

The Implantable Colimer Lens (ICL)

This lens is implanted between the iris and the natural lens of the eye, completely invisible to the observer, and eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.  This procedure costs about $6000.00 and through Sonoran Desert Eye Center you can obtain same as cash financing.  This procedure is for people that are near-sighted up to 20 diopters (LASIK is safe only to 6 diopters) and a minimal to moderate amount of astigmatism.   Advantages to ICL is:

  • Can be performed on severely near-sighted people
  • Superior visual outcome than LASIK.  If LASIK is like broadcast television, ICL is high def.
  • Immediate result with quick recovery
  • Painless
  • Safer than cataract surgery
  • No tissue removed from the cornea
  • The implant can be removed or exchanged later
  • The ICL is a UV blocking lens.
  • "Invisible" lens.  No one will be able to tell you have the ICL
  • Durable.  Impossible to be shifted out of place, even with severe head trauma.

Dr. Quaranta has been comanaging ICL for the last year.  The advantage to coming to Sonoran Desert Eye Center is that for no additional cost, you will get the time you need to have all your questions answered, and we will get you fast tracked in to the surgeon who has performed more ICL procedures in the United States than any other surgeon.  To read more about the ICL, hear testimonials, and see a video about ICL, click here.

Latisse

Latisse is the first medication on the market to extend eyelash length.  It is applied to the upper eyelid once a day, and within 3-4 months noticeable eyelash length and lash thickening is noticed.  The maximal effect occurs within 9-12 months.  The application of the medication must be continued for the effect to persist.  The effect is reversable with cessation of the medication.  Dr. Quaranta has been prescribing the medication for many years in glaucoma patients and is very familiar with all of the effects of this medication.  To learn more about Latisse click here.
